American confectionery producer Hershey is planning to replace high-fructose corn syrup with sugar in certain products.
As reported by the Associated Press, the move comes in response to the decreasing demand for the syrup and growing competition in the US sweetener market.
Hershey said that the plans to replace high fructose corn syrup are still underway and that it did not have a timeframe on when it might be complete.
Commenting on the plans, Hershey said: "Our aim is to be transparent with our consumers about the ingredients we use in our products. Once we have more information to share, we will be back in touch."
Hershey representative Jeff Beckman said that Almond Joy, Fifth Avenue, Take 5 and York are among few products that contain corn syrup.
Corn Refiners Association president John Bode said that the number of companies changing from corn syrup to sugar has reduced.
However, consumption of high-fructose corn syrup has declined when compared to other sugars.
