British Reuters reported on January 8, cited from the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, which reported that Apple is developing a low-cost version of iPhone and is expected to be released in 2013.
The report quoted an anonymous source, indicating that the device may be similar to the existed iPhone, but may be made of cheaper materials, such as polycarbonate plastic shell.
However, the report also pointed out that Apple may decide not to carry out the development of the low-end iPhone.
Since Apple launched its first smart phone in 2007, the low-priced products will be its first time to launch different models, thus to make its smart phone product line more diverse. Apple is currently facing competitive pressure from Samsung Electronics and other Android handset manufacturers.
Nevertheless, Apple declined to comment on the report.
Apple's stock price at Tuesday's regular trading session closed at $ 525.31, down 25.5% compared with the high of $ 705.07 in 52th week, September.
