Ford Invests $1.3bn in Its Kentucky Truck Plant

Ford is planning to invest $1.3bn on its Kentucky Truck Plant to support the launch of the all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty truck.

The company said that the investment is being made to build a new body shop, as well as to upgrade and retool the plant to facilitate the production of the next generation F-Series Super Duty trucks.

Ford will be producing five models of the truck at the Kentucky plant which includes XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.

F-Series Super Duty trucks will feature high-strength steel frame; high-strength, military-grade, and aluminum-alloy body; and has adaptive steering technology which is designed to make maneuvering easier.

The 6 million ft2 facility presently employs 4,400 people, and following the investment it will add 2,000 new jobs.

Kentucky Truck Plant currently manufactures F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty pickups and chassis cabs, and Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.

Ford Americas president Joe Hinrichs said: "With the introduction of the all-new Ford Super Duty, America's best-selling heavy-duty pickup, we expect to continue growing our truck leadership.

"Through this investment, we are continuing to show our commitment to Kentucky and the city of Louisville, as well as bringing to customers industry-leading trucks to help them take care of business and earn a living."

In 2014, the company invested $80m in its Kentucky plant to meet the increasing demand for Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks.
