The accordion-pleated skirt of the Yao nationality is popular in Nandan, Guangxi province. The skirt is made of hand-woven cloth dyed into varied shades of blue, folded in pleats and then stitched along the waistband with needle and thread. It is worn over an underdress of the same size. The surface of the skirt is decorated with encaustic painting where the streaklines are in varied shades of blue. The hem of the skirt is embroidered with red flowers, mostly in geometrical shapes, and is about 10cm wide. Usually, the accordion-pleated skirt is worn together with a 20cm-wide, black with blue handle face skirt that is a little longer than the pleated skirt.
