One of the star attractions of Northumberland has been given an extra sparkle this Christmas as it has been handed cLED lighting has been installed in the garden of Alnwick Castle in order to draw visitors' attention to central features of the venue.
The project was the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland and she told the North-West Evening Mail that phase one of "Sparkle" has transferred darker evenings into a stunning spectacle of light and colour.
She continued: "The Alnwick Garden was designed 17 years ago with lighting in mind. When I saw the original drawings I immediately recognised the huge opportunity for a dynamic lighting programme."
The effects have been created with the design and manufacturing of five new products that includes six-metre RGB flexible strips specifically to maximise performance in this large outdoor project.
In total, the installation includes more than 90 individual light fittings, hardware cabinets, mains and DMX cabling.
Visitors to the castle will now easily be able to peruse around the venue at any time they fancy throughout the year with this installation.
"This is the first phase of a permanent, flexible installation which will bring the garden to life in the evenings and during the winter months," she continued.
This is the latest in the long line of companies that are looking to take advantage of the energy efficiency of LED outdoor lighting.
Indeed, Northampton Borough Council has recently switched the lighting system in its St Michael's car park to LEDs and it is already paying dividends.
It is predicted that the move to LED lights will reduce the car park's energy consumption by as much as 75 per cent, which could see a saving of up to £17,800 every year.
Sheffield also recently became the first place in the UK to begin a city-wide switchover to LED lighting.
