Tourists visit the Palace Museum in Beijing on Feb 20, 2015.

The Palace Museum in Beijing, also known as the Forbidden City will extend its opening hours to make it more convenient for tourists, reports the Beijing Morning Post on Saturday.

Museum curator Shan Jixiang said that parts of the museum will stay open to tourists until night time to allow more people to experience China's traditional culture after working hours.

More area of the Forbidden City will also stay open to visitors this year as it marks its 90th anniversary. After its renovation work is completed nearly 65 percent of the Palace Museum will be open to visitors, Shan said.

The Forbidden City, built at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty in the 15th century, has undergone extensive renovations over the past 10-years.
