People living near the ancient salt pan located at the connection point between the southwest regions of Tibet and Yunnan, still maintain the traditional way of evaporating brine in the sun to make salt by hands.
According to the historical records, people have been making salt using this traditional method since the Tang dynasty over a thousand years ago.
Currently, there are 3,000 salt fields and more than 320 households which are specialized in producing salt by hand.
This ancient salt pan which can be dated back a thousand years is listed as a heritage conservation unit in Tibet Autonomous Region, and the unique way of making salts has ranged as a national intangible cultural heritage.
