Mexican Industrial Production Rose 1.1% in January 2013

Mexican industrial production rose 1.1 percent in January 2013 based on figures adjusted for growth in its four components, implying a rebound after falling 2.8 percent in December. Month-on-month growth totaled 3.7 percent in the construction sector and the electricity, gas and water supply sector advanced 1.14 percent.

However, manufacturing and mining were less dynamic, with growth rates of 0.05 and 0.02 percent, respectively, according to the National Statistics Institute and Geography (INEGI).

Compared to the same month of 2012, industrial activity in the country grew 1.7 percent.Mining remains the most dynamic sector, with an increase of 2.8 percent year-on-year, followed by the manufacturing industry, whose production increased 2.0 percent.The electricity, gas and water supply sector grew 1 percent year-on-year, while construction increased by 0.1 percent.
