Cinram will provide logistical services including packaging, warehousing, fulfilment, distribution and credit management for Cargo's variety of music and home entertainment products.
Music distribution might be considered by the current generation of music fans as the emailing of MP3s to various online stores, but in this case the deal sees Cinram and Cargo focussing on physical product in the form of vinyl.
While Cinram Group offers a full range of supply chain services, which include optical disc manufacturing(DVD,Blu-ray and CD),packaging, distribution and business solutions, its roots are in vinyl records and the deal sees the company returning to its true UK music origins and the founding of Oriole Records in 1925.
Oriole was the first ever British record label, which was eventually acquired by CBS in 1964.CBS built their facility in Aylesbury,Bucks as its UK vinyl press in the early 1970s,moving production from Oriole's earlier Aston Clinton plant.
Cargo has been bringing new labels and artists to the UK market since 1992,working with the likes of?The White Stripes and Blink 182?amongst others.
Phil Hill at Cargo Records said:"Following Gem Logistics'decision to exit music there were a number of options we had.Given Cinram's long history and experience in logistics of entertainment products, their state of the art facilities and not least the enthusiasm we found from their team in taking Cargo on as a client we felt that they were the best fit for us and confident it gives us the platform to continue the growth we've had over the past few years."
Graham Durban, industry veteran of some forty years and Cinram's Credit&Receivables Manager, adds:"Cargo Records is such a natural fit for Cinram. We're truly excited about this long-term partnership. The music is back."
