In January of the current year, the Italian seasonally-adjusted industrial production index increased by 0.8 percent compared with the previous month, according to ISTAT, Italy’s national statistics office. The average index value for the latest three months, i.e., November 2012-January 2013, was down 1.9 percent compared with the preceding three-month period.The calendar-adjusted Italian industrial production index in January this year decreased by 3.6 percent compared with January 2012 (with 22 working days in January of the current year compared to 21 in January 2012).
In the segment of metal and metal products manufacturing (excluding machines), the seasonally-adjusted industrial production index was unchanged in January compared to December, while it was down 2.9 percent in the November-January period compared to the preceeding three months. The calendar-adjusted production index in the given segment decreased by 6.8 percent in January this year as compared to January 2012.
