The Unemployment Rate Remained Stable at 7.9% in OECD Countries in October This Year

In October this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 7.9 percent, unchanged from the previous two months, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region indicated an increase of 13.1 million in October this year to 47.8 million persons as compared to July 2008.

In October, the unemployment rate for the euro area decreased by 0.1 percentage point month on month to 12.1 percent, the first decline since February 2011.

In October this year, the unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage point in the US to 7.3 percent, while it remained stable in Canada at 6.9 percent, both month on month. In the same month, the unemployment rate was stable in Japan at four percent on month-on-month basis.
