Gary Adams Has Been Named The Next President of The Cotton Body

Working at the National Cotton Council of America since the last 12 years, Gary Adams has been named the next president of the cotton body.

He takes over from Mark Lange, who retires in February, 2015 and will be officially anointed president at the council’s meeting which runs from February 6-8, 2015 at Memphis.

Adams had earlier joined the council in 2002 as vice-president of economic and policy analysis and his tasks included preparing economic outlook for global cotton markets.

Other responsibilities included analysing impacts of US farm and trade policies on the cotton sector.

Between 2003 and 2009, he represented the cotton industry at the NASS Advisory Committee on Agricultural Statistics and 2005 through 2011 on USDA’s Advisory Committee on Trade.

He was earlier a research assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri before joining the council.

His main responsibilities included policy analysis and market outlook for the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute, during his 13-year stint.

He and his teammates at the institute were lauded by the American Agricultural Economics Association for their policy contributions.

Adams has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri and B.S. and M.A. degrees in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alabama. (AR)...
