Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 125,375 mt in January this year, increasing 23.9 percent compared to December last year and down 13.3 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $54.4 million in January, rising 16.7 percent compared to December last year and up six percent compared to the same month of 2012.
Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2012-January 2013 period amounted to 998,859 mt, rising two percent on year-on-year basis. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $394 million, rising 17.3 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in January amounted to 189,930 mt, increasing by 11.5 percent on year-on-year basis and up 46.5 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2012-January 2013 period totaled 1 million mt, increasing six percent year on year.
