Building Construction in The EU-28 in August Increased by 0.6 Percent Month on Month

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in August this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.5 percent as compared to July but decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In July, production had increased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in August of the current year increased by 1.5 percent month on month, while decreasing 0.3 percent compared to August 2013. In July, production had decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area compared to June, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in August increased by 0.6 percent month on month and rose by 0.4 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.1 percent from July but was down 5.4 percent year on year.

As compared to July, construction output in August increased in Spain by 2.7 percent, in Romania by 2.5 percent and in France by 2.4 percent while a decrease of 3.2 percent was registered in the UK, a decline of two percent was recorded in Germany and declines of 1.8 percent was registered in Poland and Slovenia.

As compared to August 2013, construction output in August of the current year increased in Slovenia by 27.6 percent, in Spain by 22 percent and in Sweden by 9.4 percent, while a decrease of 15.6 percent was registered in Romania and a decline of 6.6 percent was witnessed in Portugal.
