Havertys first quarter sales jumped 13.8% and same-store sales were up 11.5%, as the Top 100 company cited standout merchandising and marketing and a continuing housing recovery working in its favor.
Sales for the period ended March 31 increased to $186.1 million from $163.6 million for the first quarter of 2012, the Atlanta-based retailer reported. Total written sales for the first quarter increased 10.4% over the same period a year ago.
Havertys Chairman, President and CEO Clarence Smith said the company is pleased with the results and business momentum, noting that the same-store sales gain was on top of a 5.7% increase for the first quarter of 2012 over the previous year.
"Our merchandising and marketing are differentiating us from our competition and we are optimistic that Havertys will benefit from a continued recovery in the housing market," he said.
Havertys operates 121 showrooms midpriced to upscale showrooms in 17 Southern and Midwestern region states.
