Mechel Announced That Its Crude Steel Output in 2012 Increased by Seven Percent

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced that its crude steel output in 2012 increased by seven percent to 6.532 million mt compared to 2011.

In 2012, Mechel saw a 12 percent year-on-year increase in its pig iron output to 4.161 million mt, while its coal production went up by one percent year on year to 27.763 million mt.

According to Mechel's statement, in the given year its flat steel product sales increased by six percent year on year to 718,000 mt, while its long steel product sales registered seven percent growth year on year to 4.073 million mt.

In 2012, the company's coking coke sales saw an eight percent decrease year on year to 11.542 million mt, while its thermal coal sales decreased by eight percent to 5.910 million mt.
