US's Imports and Import Penetration of Stainless Steel Products Rise Further in Last DEC

According to data released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA), the US’s imports and import penetration of stainless steel products rise further in last December.

The imports of stainless steel sheets and narrow strip totaled 452,475 short tons in last December, rising by 15.3% year on year. The import penetration was at 26.6%, up by 1.7 percentage points from the same period of a year ago.

The imports of stainless steel plates were at 203,026 short tons, increasing by 16.8% year on year. The import penetration increased by 2.2% percentage points from the same month of 2011 to 49.2%.

Meanwhile, the imports of stainless steel bar rose by 2.4% year on year to 146,097 short tons. The import penetration was at 56.9%, up by 1.8 percentage points year on year.

The imports of stainless steel rods totaled 29,050 short tons, rising by 8.3% year on year. The import penetration was at 42.1%, up by 3.8 percentage points in comparison of that in the same month of 2011.

Besides, the imports of stainless steel wires totaled 48,332 short tons, increasing by 4.1% year on year. The import penetration was at 80.7%, jumping by 4.8 percentage points year on year.
