ASEAN Countries Steel Consumption Is Expected to Rise Healthily in The New Few Years

It’s reported that the ASEAN countries’ steel consumption is expected to rise healthily in the new few years, according reported of the South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI).

It’s known that the steel consumption in the ASEAN countries have increased with an annual growth rate of 10.7% between 2009 and 2012.

In 2012, the ASEAN countries imported 37 million tons of steel products and the 80%~90% of the total imports were consumed by the region’s construction and shipbuilding sectors.

Meanwhile, it’s expected that the ASEAN countries’ capacity of semi-finished steel products and steel long products will be at around 51 million tons and 49 million tons respectively by 2014.
