In January this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and in the EU-27, as compared with December 2012. In December 2012, production had increased by 0.9 percent and 0.8 percent month on month respectively. In January this year compared with January 2012, industrial production decreased by 1.3 percent in the euro area and by 1.7 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.?As compared to December 2012, in January this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU-27, while capital goods fell by 1.2 percent in both zones. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-27. In January this year, intermediate goods rose by 0.1 percent in the euro area and decreased by 0.1 percent in the EU-27. Production of energy decreased by one percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-27, month on month.?Among the member states for which data are available, in January this year industrial production fell in nine states and rose in nine states, on month-oan-month basis. The largest decreases were registered in Finland (-4.1%), Luxembourg (-3.8%) and Latvia (-3.5%), while the highest increases were in Lithuania (+4.4%), Denmark (+4.3%) and Portugal (+3.5%).?As compared to the same month of 2012, in January this year production of capital goods declined by 2.6 percent in both zones, while intermediate goods fell by 3.1 percent and 3.4 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods fell by 5.5 percent in the euro area and by 4.3 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods rose by 3.1 percent in the euro area and by 2.2 in the EU-27, year on year.?Among the member states for which data are available, in January this year industrial production fell in 11 states and rose in seven, on year-on-year basis. The largest decreases were registered in Sweden (-5.9%), Finland (-5.4%), Greece and Spain (both -5.0%), while the highest increases were seen in Bulgaria and Lithuania (both +8.0%) and Estonia (+5.5%).
