ATDynamics says it will be packaging its trailer tails with trailer side skirts, to provide complete packages capable of improving fuel economy by 9.6-11.2%.
The move is being made in anticipation that the Obama Administration's new fuel economy standards for heavy trucks will lead to the creation of a new EPA SmartWay category that identifies fuel-saving technologies verified to deliver greater than 5% fuel savings.
ATDynamics says it has tested its trailer tails in combination with a variety of trailer side skirts and has found they collectively improve fuel economy by 9.6, 10.6 and 11.2%, depending on design. Trailer tails aren't yet allowed in Canada, but recent changes at the federal level have paved the way for the provinces to allow their use.
"The technologies exist today to immediately reduce the fuel consumption and carbon emissions of the long-haul trucking industry by over 10%," said Andrew Smith, CEO of ATDynamics. "ATDynamics customers have already successfully deployed over 20,000 combination packages of TrailerTails and side skirts on their trailers to date, ahead of regulatory requirements. We have invested heavily in our manufacturing, sales and service operations in order to facilitate industry-wide adoption of the highest efficiency, lowest cost and most durable aerodynamic devices available."
