World Pig Iron Production Rise by 4.25 Percent in Jan-Oct

In the first 10 months of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 973.94 million mt, rising by 4.25 percent compared to the same period of 2012, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in October this year global pig iron production amounted to 97.27 million metric tons, indicating a slight decrease of 0.84 percent compared to September and up 6.54 percent on year-on-year basis. In October, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 74.86 million mt, up 7.62 percent, with 58.75 million mt produced by China, up 8.84 percent, 7.17 million mt produced by Japan, up 5.58 percent, and 4.23 million mt produced by India, with a slight drop of 0.73 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in October this year EU countries produced 7.82 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 6.82 million mt of pig iron, with declines of 6.73 percent and 0.53 percent respectively, year on year.
