Refond Optoelectronics,Jufei Optoelectronics,and Z-Light Optoelectronics are medium-size LED packaging firms in China.These firms have relatively low capital compared to Nationstar Optoelectronics and Hongli Opto-Electronics,but these firms have been focusing on LED packaging,hence monthly capacity has reached 100-400 million units.
Refond and Jufei have similar revenues.In the first three quarters of 2012,Refond reported revenues of CNY340 million(US$54 million),representing an on-year growth of 54.5%while Jufei reported revenues of CNY349 million,representing an on-year growth of 32.4%.The two firms have been focusing on producing LED backlight products for LCD displays,and the on-year increases came from rising demand of LED TVs,smartphones and tablets in the China market.Z-Light has had no capacity expansion plan in 2012,and the price of LED packaging has been falling continuously,so Digitimes Research estimates that it is unlikely for the firm to see revenue growth in 2012.
LED backlighting for medium-and large-size displays accounts for 49%of Refond's total product shipments.The firm's main customer is China-based TV maker Konka.Jufei has been focusing on ultra-bright LED packaging for small-size displays and the percentage of sales from this segment accounts for 45%of total shipments.Jufei's customers include China-based brands such as ZTE,Huawei and Lenovo.Among total shipments of Z-Light,the SMD-type and Top series account for a total of 68%.The firm has also been developing LED lighting products.
Refond and Jufei have been obtaining upstream LED chips from Taiwan-based firms Epistar and Chi Mei Lighting Technology and lead frames from Taiwan-based I-Chiun Precision Industry.Z-Light has been obtaining LED chips from China-based makers such as Epilight Technology,HC Semitek,and Sanan Optoelectronics.
Refond has set up a new plant in Shanghai,China,which is expected to increase the firm's revenues by CNY600 million a year.Jufei has also been expanding capacity and expects backlighting and general lighting packaging capacity to increase to 2.16 billion units and 750 million units respectively in 2013.On the capacity expansion front,Z-Light has been focusing on downstream LED lighting.The firm has invested in two relatively small lighting and energy firms.Z-Light hopes to become one of the top five LED lighting packaging makers in China by 2015.
