Turkey's Slab Imports Decreased by 36.32 Percent to 218,100 Mt in Jan-Feb

In February this year, Turkey's slab imports amounted to 114,427 mt, up 10.37 percent month on month and decreasing by 30.34 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's slab imports in the given month was $59.17 million, up 13.13 percent month on month and decreasing by 26.92 percent compared to February 2013. According to the data for February this year, the average price for Turkish slab imports in the given month was $517.11/mt, rising $12.58/mt from the average of $504.53/mt recorded in the previous month.

Meanwhile, in the first two months of the current year, Turkey's slab imports decreased by 36.32 percent to 218,100 mt, while the value of these imports was $111.48 million, down 33.20 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first two months of the current year, Turkey imported 91,799 metric tons of slab from the UK, up 1.33 percent year on year. The UK was Turkey's largest slab import source in the period in question, followed by Ukraine, which supplied 61,805 mt, up 311.51 percent and the Netherlands, with 31,599 mt, down 40.19 percent, both on year-on-year basis.?
