TransCore's Canadian Freight Index continues to fluctuate through 2013, most recently posting a 7% decline in June.
The latest data continues the up-and-down trend that's been seen throughout the year. June's freight availability on TransCore's freight matching database was down 21% compared to last year's peak volume in June 2012.
The second quarter of 2013 saw a slight gain compared to the first quarter, but volume was down 17% compared to the elevated Q2 results of 2012.
Equipment postings remained flat in June, TransCore reported.
Top equipment volumes for June were: dry van, 51%; reefer 23%; and flatbed, 19%.
Most loads destined for Canada originated in: Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois and Texas. Most loads originating from Canada went to: New York, California, Pennsylvania, Texas and Michigan.
Cross-border load volumes destined for Canada were up 3% compared to May, and accounted for 74% of overall volume. Intra-Canada postings accounted for 21% of overall volume.
