The pressure to consolidate in the surfaces industry has long been mounting due to tight margins.Now it is increasingly translating into tangible changes.Several transactions have been agreed upon since the end of August:the proposed merger of Munksjöwith Ahlstrom's Label&Processing division,the planned sale of Chiyoda America)to Toppan Cosmo and the finalised purchase of the assets of Laub by Schattdecor.Surface industry insiders feel that additional consolidation may take place in the coming months because of the rather subdued market and the resulting competitive pressure.
