The benefits of LED lighting have long been known by some,but it is only in the last few years that the majority people have started to notice the energy and monetary savings that can be made when using the illuminations.
Indeed,the global market for LED outdoor lights is continuing to grow all the time as an increasing number of people and companies look to cut their carbon footprint.
Recent industry figures compiled by the Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance found that the LED lighting market will grow by as much as 32 per cent in the next seven years.
Another city that has found out the true benefits of using LED light bulbs is Fort Smith,Arkansas.
The area changed its traffic illuminations to LED outdoor lights and the conversions are saving the local authority up to$7,000(£4,350)a month since its completion,according to traffic control superintendent Steve Kelton.
Fort Smith's savings are not new as the town converted the lights back in 2006,but they are certainly substantial.
Mr Kelton said not only have the illuminations saved significant amounts of money,they have also allowed traffic control personnel more efficiently,The City Wire reports.
"In prior years with the incandescents,we would change about 1,200 light bulbs per year.From July 2010 to July 2011,we changed 40 LEDs and that was before we'd even completed our conversion,"he continued.
"It's safer for us and for them,since they[the lights]are brighter and easier to see.There's just no downside to it other than the initial investment."
An increasing number of councils and other companies in England are starting to introduce LED outdoor lighting in a bid to save them money in the long run.
Indeed,John Lewis recently completed an overhaul of its Ipswich store to make it the first 100 per cent LED light bulb shop.
