The corrugator was made to Weedon’s specification by JS Corrugated Machinery of China, one of the largest corrugator manufacturers in the world.
Weedon has invested in the new machine to introduce a range of environmentally friendly, economical board grades which the company is calling ‘Less-flute’.
Less-flute is a new type of board, launched in response to the RRP market’s growing demand for better print quality, cost efficiency and sustainability.
It uses eco-friendly paper in a new flute profile which is thinner than B flute but delivers a similar performance.
This makes Less-flute more economical in terms of both production and logistics.
The development is expected to increase Weedon’s capacity by 30% and help the company to expand into the high-end printed Retail Ready Packaging market.
Engineers came from China to set up the machine, but had problems obtaining their visas which threatened to delay installation.
Mr Gwynne helped expedite the visas and thus getting the machine up and running.
John Weedon, managing director of Weedon Corrugated Products, said: “The acquisition of this new corrugator represents a significant milestone for Weedon Corrugated Products. It is a major capital investment in the company and enables us to expand our range of products within the Retail Ready Packaging market.”
