Apple Music's New Android Feature Isn't On iPhone

Just because Apple Music is a Cupertino creation doesn’t mean Google software gets any less love.

Apple has launched a new feature for Apple Music on Android that is not available on iOS.

Today, Apple added widget support for Apple Music, which means you can drop a basic widget for the app on your homepage.

It’s a fairly basic feature, allowing users to play, pause, skip, and backtrack through a music playlist. You can also favourite songs to help out Apple Music’s personalisation algorithms.

So why didn’t Apple add this feature to the iPhone? It’s simple: iOS still doesn’t support widgets.

Widgets have been available on Android for an age, but Apple’s minimalist approach to software avoids any such clutter.

Apple first launched Apple Music eight months ago, and now offers two pricing options: $9.99 for a single license, of $14.99 for a family license.

As of February this year, Apple Music had north of 11 million subscribers, although that falls far short of Spotify’s 30 million paying users. It’s also worth noting that Apple Music is currently available in 59 countries that Spotify is not.

Apple Music was made available for Android on November 10 last year.
