The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its June 2013 booked orders decreased 14.0% when compared to June 2012 orders.
Bob Reinfried, executive vice president for CEMA, said in a recent interview that the decline was not particularly alarming, especially given that last year was a banner year for the Association.
"It is now two months in a row that we're below 2012 numbers for the same months, but we're still projecting an overall increase for the year once all is said and done," said Reinfried. "The first six months of 2013 are at 49% of what we booked and shipped last year, so at worst we'd be looking at maybe 2% down from a record-setting year. At this point our forecasts still project an increase, but we'll know better after this year's annual meeting in September."
June 2013 booked orders when compared to May 2013 booked orders were up 7.2%, which Reinfried noted as a positive sign. June booked orders were up 9.2% for bulk handling equipment and up 5.5% for unit handling equipment when compared to May.
CEMA's June 2013 billed sales (shipments) decreased by 10.8% when compared to June 2012 sales. June 2013 billed sales when compared to May 2013 billed sales were up 1.3%.
June billed sales were up 4.5% for bulk handling equipment and down 0.5% for unit handling equipment when compared to May.
