Kind words aren’t often said about the Apple Watch’s battery life, but that could be about to change.
A company has developed an Apple Watch strap that purports to extend battery life significantly.
The Prime Strap, built by Brilletark, can supposedly offer “uninterrupted usage” thanks to embedded power cells.
Brilletark says these cells can actually double battery power on a standard Apple Watch.
“Prime is a power-charging Apple Watch band that embeds reserved batteries in the strap to keep the watch fully charged all the time,” explains Brilletark.
“Charge from the strap, and swap batteries to keep the watch alive,” it continues. “Whenever, wherever. Always fulfilled and always in composure.”
The strap makes use of the hidden 6-pin port that’s tucked away at the bottom of the Apple Watch.
The Prime Strap uses a “charging technique to inject power from reserved batteries” via the 6 pin port.
What’s more, the batteries are swappable, which means you could theoretically keep the watch off-charge forever.
It’s currently available to back on Kickstarter, with an early bird offer of $199.
Unfortunately, there’s no telling whether the strap will hit its $30,000 target.
And even if it does, it won’t actually ship until July 2016 – and there may be an Apple Watch 2 by then.
Apple claims the Apple Watch has an 18-hour battery life, as recorded under normal usage.
While that should last most users a whole day, power users might want to invest in the Prime Strap.
