Samsung wowed us all with the Galaxy S7, but that doesn’t mean the tech giant has time to rest on its laurels.
The Galaxy Note 6 will launch earlier than usual this year, and with a big surprise on board, a new report claims.
It’s said that Samsung’s next flagship phone will actually arrive in mid-July, not August, as alleged by South Korean news site The Bell.
What’s more, that same report suggests the Galaxy Note 6 will launch with Android N on board.
Android N is Google’s upcoming operating system, already available for developer preview, which should be formally unveiled at the I/O conference (18-20 May).
Samsung’s Galaxy Note series devices usually arrive with an outdated operating system, due to the time it takes to develop a working software build based on Google’s release to manufacturers.
For instance, the Galaxy Note 5 featured Android 5.0 Lollipop, despite Google having already announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
For the Galaxy Note 6 to ship with Android N would be an extremely quick turnaround on Samsung’s part – and Google’s part too, for that matter.
The article also notes that the codename for Samsung’s next smartphone is "Grace".
Unfortunately, it’s tough to verify the legitimacy of this report. We asked Samsung for comment on the matter, and received the following response: "Samsung doesn't comment on rumour or speculation"
