New Car Registrations Units in EU, with an Increase of 8.4 Percent Year on Year in Q1

In the first quarter of the current year, new car registrations totaled 3,246,719 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 8.4 percent year on year, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). In March this year, EU new car registrations increased by 10.6 percent year on year to 1,449,148 units and were up 68.3 percent compared to February.

In the first three months of this year, the UK (+13.7 percent), Spain (+11.8 percent), Italy (+5.8 percent), Germany (+5.6 percent) and France (+2.9 percent) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis.

In March, most EU markets posted year-on-year growth, with the UK up 17.7 percent, Spain up 10.0 percent, France up 8.5 percent, with Germany indicating an increase of 5.4 percent and with Italy seeing a rise 5.0 percent.
