In lieu of Android Pay remaining a US-only proposition at present, Barclays is introducing the stopgap measure for NFC-enabled handsets.

Just as with a contactless card or through other mobile payment platforms like Apple Pay, Barclaycard holders will be pay by holding their device near the NFC reader.

Users will be able to pay for items up to £30 just by placing the device near the reader, while adding a pin into the equation will enable transactions up to £100.

As Engadget points out following a TechRadar report, the firm is storied in offering mobile payments tech.

The bPay platform even works for non-Barclays customers and allows folks to link their debit or credit cards to a key fob, stickers and wristbands.

Interestingly, for all of its movement in the space, Barclays is yet to adopt the Apple Pay platform, which has been available in the UK since July.

The firm has promised an early 2016 launch, but we're yet to hear a recent update on that vow. Barclays has also negated to confirm whether today's update will ever come to iOS devices too.
