Yahoo Has Acquired Inbox Management Solution Provider Xobni and Its Smartr Product Suite

Yahoo has acquired inbox management solution provider Xobni and its Smartr product suite,just hours after purchasing iPhone video app Qwiki.

The deal is reportedly worth between$30m(£20m)and$40m(£26)and will see 31 Xobni employees join Yahoo's 11,000 staff.That includes CEO Jeff Bonforte,who before joining Xobni as its CEO in February 2008 worked for Yahoo in the roles of vice president of social search and vice president of real time communications.

Yahoo wants to incorporate Xobni technology into its own communication tools-such as email and instant messaging-in both web browsers and mobile applications.

"Did you ever meet someone who truly'gets'you?That's how we feel about Yahoo,"reads a blog post about the acquisition by Xobni.

"The power within every Xobni product is that it responds to how you communicate.Every day you demonstrate who and what is important to you.That can benefit not just your inbox or smartphone,but the many services you use.

"Yahoo gets that,and they want us to use our platform to make many Yahoo services better for you,"the statement adds.

 May saw Yahoo purchase Tumblr for$1.1bn as CEO Marrissa Mayer looks to reignite the web firm's traffic and boost its revenue streams.
