St-Luc Labels & Packaging has purchased and installed a Comexi L20000 water-based laminator at its headquarters in Belgium.
Employing more than 200 people, St- Luc prints and converts flexible packaging from its production sites located in Belgium, the Netherlands and France.
The new laminator, which will complement film products printed on its HP Indigo 20000 digital press, is designed to reduce star-up required for very short runs.
In addition to saving costs and reducing environmental impact, the water-based laminator enables reducing products’ life cycle, allow mass customization and personalization, offer fast delivery times.
St-Luc managing director Niko Dhondt said: “We saw many water-based laminators and, finally, we confirmed that L20000 technology gave the best answer to our needs in short run flexible packaging in terms of set up-time, waste reduction, curing time and, moreover, we are still a solvent free company.”
The laminator also allows users to easily switch between lamination and coating, and makes it possible to deliver a complete packaging in less than 24 hours.
Dhondt added: “The L20000 is a perfect match in order to serve the market of short runs flexible packaging. Now, we can deliver film products to our clients in less than one week thanks to its fast curing time, which is a clear benefit in combination with digital printing.”
Comexi said that the machine is expected to enhance the production at St-Luc’s latest production hall, which also comprises different printing, laminating and digital technologies for flexible packaging costumers.
St-Luc also acquired a Comexi S2 DT slitter and is planning to sign other commercial agreements, Comexi noted.
