UK bottled water brand Highland Spring is planning to trial a new 100% recycled plastic bottle in the country.
The trial, which is said to be the first for the UK bottled water category, is scheduled to commence in June this year and is aimed to keep plastic in the circular economy to reduce plastic waste levels.
Available from Tesco stores in Scotland and Sainsbury’s stores in England, the 500ml Highland Spring eco bottle features a label with burst of green color and a ‘100% recycled plastic bottle’ message.
Highland Spring said it also plans to make the eco bottle available at the Fever-Tree Tennis Championships at Queen’s Club.
During the trial period, consumers will be invited to give their feedback on the launch of the bottle.
The results are expected to help assess the public’s perception of recycled plastics and their reaction to a 100% recycled plastic water bottle, the firm said.

“Plastic is a valuable resource that shouldn’t be treated as waste and we encourage everyone to get involved in this trial. Tell us what you think of the eco bottle and then recycle it afterwards to help keep the circle of recycled plastics going.
“This is a significant step that is part of a longer-term road map to eliminating plastic waste as more and more consumers recycle their plastic bottles and we can source recycled plastic in the quantities and quality we need.”
Earlier this year, Highland Spring said it has joined the UK Plastics Pact, which is a collaborative initiative aimed to tackle plastic waste.
Highland Group is amongst the 42 businesses in the Pact to commit to a series of ambitious targets set by 2025.
