Self-adhesive label materials manufacturer UPM Raflatac has collaborated with wine industry leaders on sustainability at Vinitaly 2017 wine exhibition.
The company partnered with Italian wine producer Cielo e Terra and natural cork supplier, Amorim Cork, for promoting sustainability in the wine industry at the 'Freschello for Forests' event at Vinitaly 2017, which is being held from 9 to 12 April in Verona, Italy.
As part of the sustainability initiative, Freschello wine bottle will be launched at the event that integrates an FSC certified label and promotes UPM Raflatac's Rafcycle concept as a solution for recycling label waste.
According to UPM, sustainability is high on the agenda in the wine industry and firm partnerships are crucial to the development of sustainable packaging solutions.
UPM Raflatac sustainability director Robert Taylor said: "UPM Raflatac's eco-design approach focuses on the whole label lifecycle. We know the biggest environmental impacts are related to raw material sourcing and what happens to the material at the end of its lifecycle - landfill, incineration or recycling.”
UPM Raflatac wines and spirits business development manager Stefano Pistoni said: "By taking a proactive approach and working together, we can understand our environmental impacts and find innovative ways to solve the challenges we face.”
Last month, UPM Raflatac launched a range of specialist label materials for craft beverage market.
Designed to enhance the shelf appeal of craft beverages, the new European range includes textured, colored and metalized papers, in addition to ultra-clear and white film materials.
The new range of label materials can be used for different types of craft beverages such as beers, ciders, high-end soft drinks, and spirits.
