DESMI Pumping Technology A/S is to supply pump system packages for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s four new fuel tankers.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary is a civilian-manned fleet, owned by the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD), which supports Royal Navy ships around the world.
DESMI was approached by the naval division of Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in early 2011 to bid for the vessels’ fuel and fresh water cargo pumps, later followed by the engine room water pumps, emergency fire fighting pumps and helicopter fuel rig modules. DESMI Pumping Technology has now been awarded the contract to deliver the pump arrangements and systems for all four tankers. The contract awards will also extend to training programmes, integrated logistics, and life ship support for the expected life of the four vessels. DESMI has supplied pump packages to DSME for many years, including for the current newbuild programme of Triple E series ultra-efficient container ships. DESMI has also been a supplier for a number of Royal Navy ships and has long-standing experience supplying the MOD. The Danish company previously delivered the whole pump package for the Queen Elizabeth Air Craft Carrier.
