The Former Office Manager of The Home Hardware Building Centre Is in Custody

The former office manager of the Home Hardware Building Centre in Thompson is in custody after being charged with 98 fraud-related charges totaling almost $1.5 million. RCMP said they were contacted in June 2009 over the business owner’s suspicions that money was missing. After a forensic audit confirmed the funds had been misappropriated, the RCMP launched an investigation that involved the Manitoba D division financial integrity unit, major crime, and the RCMP’s St. John’s commercial crime unit in Newfoundland. The former office manager had relocated to that city. The RCMP believe that between 2004 and 2009, about $1.5 million was misappropriated from the business. Theresa Foley, 43, the former office manager, was arrested March 21 in St. John’s on a Canada-wide warrant. She has been returned to Manitoba, where she is being held in custody. Foley faces 98 fraud-related charges, theft over $5,000, and several counts of uttering forged documents and falsifying documents. Foley is set to appear in Winnipeg provincial court April 5.
