Production of the all-new Honda NSX will begin in 2015 at a new $70.8 million performance manufacturing centre in the US.
The new Ohio-based facility – located close to where the NSX is being engineered – will exclusively assemble the new Honda NSX while its hybrid powertrain will be built at Honda’s Ohio engine plant in Anna.
Badged as a Honda in Europe and an Acura in the US, the new NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injection V6 engine mated to Honda’s three-motor high-performance Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system and an all-new dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Honda R&D Americas chief engineer Ted Klaus said the new performance manufacturing centre in Ohio would be key to the NSX’s global success.
“We have a very clear understanding of the high customer expectations luxury buyers around the world have for a supercar, and our challenge is to exceed them and create new value for the customer,” Klaus said.
The new 17,094-square metre site – which will become Honda’s third car plant in Ohio – will carry on from the Takanezawa and Suzuka plants in Japan that produced the original NSX from 1990-2004 and 2004-2005 respectively.
The latest iteration of the Honda NSX concept was seen at this year’s Detroit auto show in January, revealing a new interior designed around “the synergy between man and machine”.
