In December 2012, the seasonally and working-day adjusted turnover in the German manufacturing industry fell by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month, following a revised month-on-month decrease of one percent in November, according to the preliminary data reported by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
In 2012, the working day adjusted turnover in manufacturing was 0.9 percent below the level of the previous year. Domestic sales decreased by 1.8 percent, while international sales increased slightly by 0.1 percent, year on year. Sales in non-EU countries rose by 3.9 percent, while turnover from euro area sales fell by five percent, both compared to the previous year.
In December, the greatest month-on-month turnover decrease in the German manufacturing sector was observed in the manufacture of metal and metal products with a fall of 4.9 percent. In the metal and metal product segment, in the given month there was a 10 percent decrease in domestic sales and a four percent rise in foreign sales, month on month.
In December, the turnover of German fabricated metal products manufacturing decreased 0.8 percent as compared to November, with domestic sales decreasing by 1.4 percent, while foreign sales were up by 0.6 percent, month on month.
