Trade Resources Industry Views School Uniforms Must Be Double-Inspected Prior to Handing Over The Same to Students

School Uniforms Must Be Double-Inspected Prior to Handing Over The Same to Students

The Shanghai’s education, quality supervision and other departments have jointly issued a statement that henceforth school uniforms must be double-inspected prior to handing over the same to students.

The statement has been issued in the wake of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision’s announcement last month that a cancer causing aromatic amine dye was found in school uniforms produced in July 2012 by the Ouxia garment company.

According to the statement, school uniforms must be sent to authorized centres for testing before they are sent out of the factory.

Similarly, school administrations are also required to send samples for testing and they can only handover uniforms to students once the quality is confirmed, China Daily reported.

Last month, the education authorities in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai asked 21 schools that procured uniforms from Ouxia to ask its students to stop wearing the uniforms.   The latest move is part of the Shanghai authorities to strengthen their supervision of school uniforms.
