Lamborghini Urus Production Confirmed for 2017

Production of the Lamborghini Urus SUV has been confirmed for 2017 via a tweet by the editorial director of UK motoring publication EVO.

The tweet, posted by EVO’s Harry Metcalfe during a gala dinner celebrating the culmination of the recent Lamborghini 50th anniversary grand tour, not only confirms production of the Lamborghini Urus for 2017 but also backs statements made by the Italian marque’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann last year, when he said the all-new SUV would not reach showrooms before 2017.

While no details have been officially released by Lamborghini, it is believed that supercar maker is aiming to sell 3000 Urus models worldwide.

In October 2012, Winkelmann said he expected the Urus to sell for more than 150,000 euros ($196,000) and could be built outside of the Raging Bull’s Sant’Agata factory.

Wider and longer than a Range Rover Evoque, the Lamborghini Urus – first seen at the 2012 Beijing motor show – teams a permanent all-wheel-drive system with a claimed 440kW powerplant and variable ride height technology to ensure both light off-road ability and high-speed performance capability. A plug-in hybrid variant is also being considered.
