Seventeen US Plywood Importers, Distributors and Users Formed The AAHP

Seventeen US plywood importers, distributors and users formed the American Alliance for Hardwood Plywood (AAHP) at the start of October. This move came in reaction to a preliminary investigation launched by the US Department of Commerce‘s International Trade Commission (ITC) into hardwood plywood imports from China on 27 September 2012. The new alliance aims to present the opposite position to the Coalition for Fair Trade of Hardwood Plywood (CFTHP), which had previously been created by six US plywood manufacturers. The CFTHP, which claims that its members cover 80% of US production, had filed for the ITC investigation and sought anti-dumping and countervailing duties. The AAHP claims that plywood manufacturers raised the prospect of anti-dumping duties to the tune of 300%. The scale of any additional countervailing duties was not disclosed. If approved, these tariffs would make US hardwood plywood users much less competitive on the international stage, the AAHP believed. Source: euwid-wood-products
