Two international textile events – the 2012 Textile International Forum and Exhibition (TIFE) and the 2012 Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) – were organized by the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI).
The three-day joint events had safety, environment and protection as their main theme. Unlike in the past, TTRI this year shifted its focus from polyster-based products to innovative nylon-related products, including Aquatimo products, TTRI Executive Vice President Lien Jung-shen said
Nylon, which has better softness than polyester, is considered more appropriate for preparing fabrics for innerwear and sportswear.
TTRI Department of Raw Materials and Yarns Deputy Director An Ta-chung said advanced nylon fibre has cotton-like attributes like ability to absorb moisture and moisture desorption ability like that of wicking shirts.
Speaking about Aquatimo products, Mr. Lien said these are apparel prepared from modified hydrophilic nylon that present the wearer with a cool and comfortable feeling, alongside its stylish look. These products also reduce power consumption as they cut requirement of fans and ACs.
Mr. Lien said as showcased at the expo, Aquatimo fibre finds utility in production of T-shirts, formalwear, polo shirts, nightgowns, innerwear and sportswear.
Aquatimo products developed by TTRI were graced with platinum award at the 2012 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart, he added.
Further, informing about TTRI's LED yarn, he said while enhancing safety, this yarn adds a glowing effect to products like children's raincoats and bike jackets.
TITAS featured end products like digital printing flocking bags, wind jackets and home textiles incorporating Chinese cultural themes, which mingled non-film digital printing technology with latest product design techniques.
