World Pig Iron Production Rose by 2.09 Percent in January-August

In the January-August period of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 796.12 million mt, rising by 2.09 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

In the given period, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 615.32 million mt, up 2.21 percent, with 483.25 million mt produced by China, up 1.21 percent, 55.75 million mt produced by Japan, down 0.2 percent, and 35.84 million mt produced by India, up 7.12 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 63.84 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 54.81 million mt, with respective increases of 3.99 percent and 0.05 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in August this year global pig iron production amounted to 100.82 million metric tons, increasing by 1.06 percent compared to July, and up 2.95 percent on year-on-year basis.

In August alone, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 77.72 million mt, up 2.64 percent, with 60.33 million mt produced by China, up 0.68 percent, 7.35 million mt produced by Japan, up 2.88 percent, and 4.66 million mt produced by India, up 10.79 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 7.80 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 6.97 million mt, respectively with an increase of 4.08 percent and a decrease of 0.74 percent year on year.
