Mexican accumulated output of liquid steel increased 4 percent during the first two months of the year to reach 2.973 million tons, against 2.859 million tons in the same period last year.
Production in February totaled 1.421 million tons, a 8.4 percent decrease compared to January's total of when production was 1.551 million tons. However, compared to February 2012 (1.392 million tons), production grew 2.1 percent.
Apparent domestic steel consumption it fell 4.6 percent during the first two months of 2013, to reach 3.762 million tons, against 3.943 million tons of the same period of 2012.
In terms of trade balance, in the same period of comparison, imports fell 13.5 percent, adding 1.449 million tons against 1.675 million tons, while exports gained ground to grow 34.4 percent (888.398 tons between January-February 2013 against 661.046 tons of the same period of last year).
