Companies that manufacture, deliver or install glass need to take extra care to ensure their employees are working in a safe environment.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK glass industry employs around 27,000 people and produces around 2.8 million tonnes of the material each year.
By its very nature, glass can be extremely hazardous to handle and problems obviously arise when it is shattered. This is why risk assessments are so important when glass is involved and firms need to adequately plan how it will be handled.
The HSE, British Glass and the Glass and Glazing Federation have developed the GLASS (Goal: Less Accidents Safe Sites) Charter, which is aimed at improving health and safety standards across the industry.
