Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive, the German carmaker Volkswagen's Chinese JV company with SAIC Motor, has unveiled a new vehicle manufacturing facility in Yizheng, Eastern China.
The new facility, with a capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles per year, has already begun the production of the carmaker's new Polo car and the company also plans to produce Skoda models at this facility in the next stage.
Additionally, Volkswagen has built a new technical testing centre, a training academy to provide initial and advanced training for employees and an energy centre spanning through a total area of 1.3 million square meters.
During H1 2012, the company reported 17.5% rise in its sales to about 1.30 million units, while the carmaker had sold 2.26 million vehicles in China in 2011.
By 2018, Volkswagen Group China is planning to increase its annual production capacity to about four million units.
