A call has been issued by Underwriters Laboratories Canada’s Martin Oughton, chair of ESFi (Electrical Safety Foundation International) Canada, to help make electrical safety a priority by joining ESFi Canada. He writes:
“As we work to establish cooperative approaches to advancing electrical safety for consumers and workers, I would like to invite you to join ESFi Canada,” which was established in September 2011 as a national electrical safety organization with the purpose of reducing electrically related deaths, injuries and property loss through education, advocacy and the creation of “risk reduction interventions”.
“ESFi Canada partners with corporations, industry organizations, community leaders and the media to develop key resources and consistent electrical safety messages,” writes Oughton. “These resources are used to promote electrical safety education and awareness in schools, communities and workplace environments.”
ESFi Canada is a not-for-profit organization that depends on community support and industry stakeholders to fund the development of new programs and resources. It receives funding from electrical manufacturers, distributors, independent testing laboratories, retailers, insurers, utilities, safety organizations, and trade and labour associations.
“Help us make electrical safety a priority! Join ESFI Canada and make a difference,” Oughton writes.
Oughton explains that contributions to ESFi Canada are generally made as:
• A one-time contribution of $5000 that does not commit an organization to give the same amount in following years; or
• A three-year commitment of $5000 each year that can be made either in the same amount or in different amounts each year during the commitment period.
“To become an annual contributor or to make a three-year contribution commitment, please complete the attached contribution statement [below] and mail it with your contribution.”
